Middle Years Learning Opportunities

In November, our Grade 7s focused on Financial Literacy. To do so, we connected with Junior Achievement Manitoba, the province’s largest youth business education organization that is dedicated to providing teachers with programs that teach youth about financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness. All of their programs support the educational curriculum in Manitoba, and are sponsored in part by the Government of Manitoba, Initiative for School Aged Youth.

We were also very fortunate to have Mr. Jeff Hutchinson from the Bank of Montreal join us to discuss savings, stocks and bonds. If that last name sounds familiar and you are wondering if he is related to our own Mr. Hutchinson, you are correct! They are brothers! Our Grade 7s also participated in the Review and Rate – Smoking Cessation program.

As for our Grade 8s they began November with their own Financial Literacy sessions, CPR training with Mrs. Thiessen and their first of four visits to the SRSS where they participated in Culinary Arts, Welding, Collision Repair, Electrical and Graphic Design/Coding.

In December, our Grade 7s participated in a program called, Roots of Empathy and also received some Digital Citizenship training to help them make smart choices online. Our Grade 8s returned to the SRSS for their second visit.
